If you're looking for source consider definition 2 on wikitionary and this page. Does that make sense? All cul-de-sacs are dead ends, but not all dead ends are cul-de-sacs? It may be regional, but where I live, most people wouldn't consider a dead end without a bulb a cul-de-sac. Specifically, a cul-de-sac is a type of dead end where the end has a "bulb" shape to facilitate turning around.
